I found his '78T rc in a dollar box about 4 months ago. Sharp as can be. Snapped that sucker up 1-2-3.
I was thinking about Jim Gentile the other day. He was a pretty good ballplayer for about 5 or 6 years.
Those special combo cards like Buc Belters, Bird Hill Aces etc are one of the best things about vintage cards. I just love them! The Card Clubbers being a low number card is certainly one I remember from my childhood as we used to trade baseball cards on the bus in the Spring and football cards in the Fall.
If Flood hadn't sacrificed himself for the future of all baseball players, I'm convinced he would have made the Hall of Fame. After completing his age 31 season, he had 1854 hits and 7 Gold Gloves in Center Field. Injury free as he was his whole career, he likely would have made it to 3000 hits like his outfield partner Lou Brock, with several more GG and All-star appearances to go along with it.
After posting the card of Dave Wilcox, I thought you'd appreciate this jaw dropping hit he put on Joe Kapp. Forward this video to the 2:50 mark to see it. When I first asw this I said "HOLY..........something or other!". I've seen the aftermath of this hit somewhere and Kapp got up after 15 or 20 seconds and surprisingly there were no extra curriculars in a time when extra curriculars were commonplace. Old school football was insanely tough.
