Well I see now why Billy Kilmer showed up on the 1972 Topps NFC Passing Leaders card instead of his teammate Sonny Jurgensen. Sonny missed most of the 71 season with an imjury.
Lots of great info on the backs of vintage cards! The backs of many vintage cards are often as nice as the fronts which is saying something!
I saw Connie Hawkins with the Harlem Globetrotters in 1966. Got his autograph on the program, along with Curly Neale. Hawk lost 6 years of his prime due to the NBA unfairly banning him. With those six years, he might have been only the 5th or 6th player to score 20,000 points in his career.
I'll bet anything The Hawk just did a finger roll with his opponent trying to draw a charge. with Clyde Frazier in the backgound. Hawkins had the biggest hands in the NBA and most of his highlights involved him palming the ball and passing or shooting from there. Truly a one of a kind player.
What a fantastic back Sims was. Too bad his budding HOF career was cut short by injury. The luck of the Lions struck again.
I have this card too. It's really nice.
Those combo cards from the 60s like this one are just awesome! They always had clever names attatched to them like Buc Belters. and Bird Hill Aces. They almost always were really sharp looking cards too.
